No idea what to add to your registry? I think that’s more common than not as a new parent. While it’s tough to figure out what you may need or want since every baby is different, here are some recommendations that I think are very useful to have from the beginning.
CLOTHING
Sleep and play (footed) pajamas that have foldover cuffs (a must for newborn and 0-3 months) and a 2 way zipper, so you don’t have to fuss with gloves, socks, buttons, or snaps while you’re getting used to this whole diaper thing. Remember you are likely going to change the baby’s diapers 8-12 times a day at the beginning. 8-12 times a day!
Drool bibs. It is so much easier to change a bandana than it is to change the baby’s onesie or entire outfit when things get messy. My personal preference is the bandana style and these were my favorite based on softness: vuminbox Baby Bandana Drool Bibs 6-Pack and Teething Toys 6-Pack.
BATHING
Baby bath tub or bath support
Angelcare Baby Bath Support: We used this one in our kitchen sink and bathtub for both babies. This eased our anxiety because baby felt really secure and protected against slips.
Munchkin Duck Inflatable Baby Bathtub with White Hot Heat Alert
Hooded towel. I can’t find a link to my favorite one since it was a gift, but here’s another good one I’ve used: Hudson Baby Unisex Baby Cotton Animal Face Hooded Towel.
Washcloths. So far the bamboo ones are the softest while also holding up. The ones I used are no longer available but seem similar to these Bamboo Baby Washcloths.
DIAPERS
Changing pad. We had both the super popular Keekaroo Peanut but my kids prefer the super basic Munchkin Secure Grip Waterproof Diaper Changing Pad. We use these super cute covers for them. A 2-pack is plenty if you do laundry often, which you probably will. Make sure you have a safe and/or ergonomic place to use this on, like a changing table, dresser, or the floor.
Diaper pail
Diaper Genie Complete Diaper Pail We’ve used two of these so far. It has its shortfalls but is incredibly effective for smells.
Ubbi Diaper Pail I hear great things about this one but haven’t tried it since it doesn’t seem worthwhile at this point based on my kids’ ages and use.
OTHERS
Places to put your baby down safely. Many if possible. Examples include pack and plays, bassinets, play pens, and high chairs. While I don’t have any particular recommendations, these are the ones we’ve used:
Graco Blosson 6 in 1 High Chair: This high chair has a recline feature suitable for infants to drink from a bottle.
Carseat. You’ll need to have it installed before you take baby home. My hospital checked for it before discharging us. Here’s another item I don’t have recommendations for, but here are the ones we have tried:
