Experimenting with focus and time management

Ok so kind of silly, but I bought this. The one above is the one I actually bought (based on time intervals and price), and the one at the end of this blog post has more good reviews.

Embarrassing note: I can't figure out how to have them side-by-side. Help welcome!

It's worked the couple times I've used it but I'm also still experimenting to see if it's worthwhile.

The idea is that when you need to focus on something, you just flip the timer interval you want and it sets automatically. That's it. So simple right?

I mean also technically totally unnecessary since all of our phones have a timer and we can tell Siri/Alexa/Google to set a timer for us, but

  1. Smart assistants have been finicky in my personal experience (nothing is more maddening than waiting for the timer and then it tells you there is no timer set!), and

  2. 9/10 times I go into my phone to set a timer to focus, I get completely distracted by one notification or another, which is exactly counterproductive to my goal!

This is one of those times that I get hyped up about trying something new and I share with friends and family. Now, I'll be updating here on this blog, so that my friends, family, and others can find it in the time and space that is convenient and aligned with their mindset.

Here is what I have used it (or plan to use it) for:

  • Focusing on assignments that I'd otherwise procrastinate on,

  • Limiting activities that I tend to get caught up in or waste time on,

  • Tidy sessions, and

  • Exercise.

I'll update here when the verdict is in, and if it works out really well then it'll get promoted to the wellness toolbox!

UPDATE:

This specific one didn't work out for me. It was just too loud, even on the low setting.
